I feel very privileged to have been a part of the MIT grant these past two years. I was fortunate enough to have been part of the MIT Palm grant earlier. South Lane School District’s participation in these grants has put us on the cutting edge of the use of technology in education. Not only do we have the opportunity to obtain technology for use in our classrooms, but of equal importance is the training provided to support our use of the technology. With the training and support we have received, the use of technology in my classroom has become as natural and as much a part of my everyday teaching as the use of textbooks. My laptop, document camera and projector, and the clickers are used on a daily basis. I now plan to start up CPS first thing in morning and start each day with attendance. If the program is running, and the students have the clickers, we’ll make better use of them.
An added bonus of this grant is the fact that it was at the same time when many of us were involved with the OMLI grant. Many ideas that we learned at OMLI were able to be put into practice through the benefit of MIT. Example: The quality and quantity of student discourse improved greatly with the use of the document camera and projector.
Our students are the big winners when it comes to the benefits of our participation in the MIT grant.
